Newberg-Dundee Public Schools’ SAIL (Support Advocacy for Independence in Life) program supports young adult students who experience disability in learning life skills and vocational skills to gain more independence. The project team renovated and expanded a former single-family residence into a 3,000 SF facility with a large, flexible classroom, offices, support spaces, and a large kitchen for staff and student use. An operable wall allows the program to adapt the teaching space to their needs. The adaptive reuse of the existing building allowed the district to optimize its limited budget to create a beautiful and functional learning environment.
