Skyline Elementary School

2022

Utilizing design-build delivery, this replacement school in northwest Tacoma was designed and built adjacent to the occupied existing facility, allowing the old building to be used as a “swing school” for other district construction projects. The new Skyline Elementary is a K-5 school totaling 45,000 SF for 450 students. The school features thoughtful design accents such as the sculptural ceiling at the library that lets in ample daylight from clerestory windows. Exposed wood accents contribute to a strong Pacific Northwest aesthetic. Developmental classrooms provide space for occupational and physical therapy, while a peer inclusion preschool classroom allows students of all abilities to learn together.
