Seattle Central CC Wood Construction Center

2012

The Wood Construction Center, serving as a satellite campus of Seattle Central Community College houses programs for carpentry, boat-building, cabinet-making and laminates. This project was part of a multi-phase master plan which replaced an existing 30,000 SF facility and a number of other modular structures all of which were in poor condition.  The new 70,000 SF building takes advantage of the 25 foot difference in elevation from one end to the other by stacking shops and creating an interior plaza while providing for on grade access to all four shop spaces. The structural steel modified saw-tooth roof is exposed on the interior, welcoming in natural light.  The heart of the campus is a gallery space with large roll-up doors framed beneath beautifully exposed heavy timber members.
